Sabaudia is a vest harness in nylon with a quick-release fastening, supplied with a matching lead. Both the neck and the chest strap adjust, in four sizes.
A harness is the one cat product where weight is the wrong number. Two cats of five kilos can be a full size apart across the chest. Take a tape around the base of the neck and around the chest just behind the front legs, then read the ranges below. Leave 2 to 3 cm of slack at the neck — enough that the harness cannot be backed out of, loose enough not to press.
The load is spread over a panel across the chest rather than a cord round the throat. Cats pull sideways and backwards rather than forwards, which is exactly the direction a thin strap slips in — a vest holds where a strap does not.

Start days ahead, not on the morning itself. Leave a carrier open in the living room with a blanket and the occasional treat inside, so it stops being the object that only appears before the vet. A harness goes on for two minutes at a time indoors, with food, and comes off before the cat objects rather than after.
A carrier belongs on the floor behind a front seat, or on a seat with the belt run through its straps — never loose, never on a lap. A cat that gets out mid-journey is a danger to itself and to the driver. Draping a light cloth over it helps: most cats settle faster when they cannot see the road moving.
Almost always because the carrier only ever appears before something unpleasant. Break the association by leaving it out permanently as furniture, feeding near it, then feeding in it. Loading from the top is far easier than pushing a braced cat through a front opening — on a soft carrier, unzip the top rather than fight the door.
Cats accept new things on their own timetable. Put it where your cat already chooses to be — the sunny corner, the room the household uses most — and leave it alone for a few days rather than presenting it. A little catnip helps on anything meant to be slept on or scratched. Anything worn or handled should be left out to be sniffed and walked away from several times before you use it.
