A plush arch with a snap fastener on the front: closed, it is a cave; unsnapped, the panel folds back into an open bed. The cat decides which, and you change it in a second.

Description

Ventotene is a semi-enclosed plush bed. A snap button on the front panel holds the opening in an arch; release it and the panel folds down, turning the cave into an open bed with a raised back. The cover is removable and washable.

One bed, two shapes

Cats do not sleep the same way all year. The same cat that buries itself in a cave in January sprawls in the open in July. Most beds pick one of those and lose the cat for half the year; this one converts, which is the entire reason to choose it over a fixed cave.

The cover comes off

Plush collects hair, and a bed you cannot wash gets thrown away rather than cleaned. Treat it as a cold wash.

Choosing between the two sizes

The small measures 36 × 30 × 20 cm and the large 50 × 40 × 28 cm. The small suits a cat that curls; the large gives an adult room to stretch out once the front is folded down, and it is the one to take if the bed will be used open as often as closed.

My cat sleeps everywhere except in the bed.

Put the bed on the spot the cat has already chosen instead of the spot you had in mind, and leave something in it that smells of the household — a worn t-shirt works better than anything sold for the purpose. Raised rims and enclosed shapes are usually taken up faster than flat mats, because a cat wants something at its back.

Open bed or enclosed cave?

It depends on how your cat already sleeps, and you know the answer without asking: a cat that curls up in cupboards and under beds wants an enclosed one, while a cat that sprawls in the middle of the floor will ignore a cave and use an open bed. In a household with two cats, one of each is a safer bet than two of the same.

How do I stop it smelling?

Wash it before it needs it rather than after — every few weeks, and always at the end of a moult. What this particular bed allows is set out under Care & assembly, since some wash whole and others have a cover that lifts off. An afternoon airing in the sun does more than any spray.

Will my cat actually use it?

Cats accept new things on their own timetable. Put it where your cat already chooses to be — the sunny corner, the room the household uses most — and leave it alone for a few days rather than presenting it. A little catnip helps on anything meant to be slept on or scratched. Anything worn or handled should be left out to be sniffed and walked away from several times before you use it.

What if it does not suit my cat?

You have 30 days from delivery to send it back. Returns are free and the refund goes to the payment method you used. You do not need to give a reason.
